El Paraiso Foods History

El Paraiso Foods is a family owned business founded by Silvia and Elias Marquez. In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Marquez came to the United States from Guadalajara, Jalisco with only their shared dream of success in mind for their family and themselves. They worked through several jobs to sustain their family and put money aside for a shared business dream.
In 1981, the dream became a reality, and El Paraiso Foods was established. Originally, they began manufacturing tortillas from a small warehouse in the City of South Gate. Competition in the tortilla business was fierce and not as lucrative as originally anticipated. Mr. and Mrs. Marquez worked over 12 hours a day, seven days a week; refusing to let their dream come to an end.

Mrs. Marquez began thinking about the tasty, homemade tostadas with the RIGHT AMOUNT OF CRISP in every bite that she used to enjoy growing up. Using these mouth-watering memories as inspiration, both Mr. and Mrs. Marquez agreed to abandon the tortilla product idea and instead pursue Mrs. Marquez’s home-style tostada idea. Mrs. Marquez set out to create the perfect tostada casera (home-style tostada) made of pure white corn with the authentic taste of their Mexican roots.

Years later Mrs. Marquez’s recipe has proven to be a success. With a rigorous daily schedule and pure determination to make this idea work, they both looked ahead and focused on their end goal. This routine continued for many years while their company grew and eventually it all paid off:

El Paraiso Foods is now a thriving company, which has expanded its product line to include Tortilla Chips, and Oven Baked Tostadas. They hope to continue expanding and be able to share their delicious, pure white corn product line with generations to come.
